SJS Post Series Awards
LINCOLN (May 6, 2024) – Presented by the UNL PGA Golf Management Program, Nebraska Junior Golf completed the three event 2024 Spring Junior Series (SJS) for high school girls and incoming freshman. The SJS was wrapped up on May 4th at Ashland Golf Club and the post-series awards recognizing the overall Champions as well as the All-Star Team and Captain have been awarded.
The team at the top of the overall series leaderboard was the “Gimmegirls”. They played the series in consistent fashion, finishing runner up in the first two events and winning the final event totaling 1300 points to be named the 2024 NJG Spring Junior Series Overall Team Champions. This winning squad featured some very talented players. Olivia Lovegrove of Lincoln, Elly Honnens of Lincoln, and Kate Kelley of Omaha. For the first time in SJS history, there was a tie for the overall series team champion between the “Gimmegirls” and the “Green Warriors” (Naryn Kim, Natasha Kolbas, Eden Larson and Lucy Peterson). The tie breaker was the team score of the final event. One of the highlights of the series was the very impressive play of Olivia Lovegrove and Elly Honnens. Olivia won the Azalea event at Table Creek and Elly won the Magnolia event at Ashland GC, and they both did it by winning a two-hole playoff to seal the deal. Another highlight was Eden Larson of Lincoln, who had the only under par round of the series of 71 (-1) in the Juniper event at Jackrabbit Run GC in Grand Island. Lincoln’s 13-year-old, Naryn Kim, also showed out with two runner up finishes and a 3rd place finish, which was solid enough play to name her the NJG Spring Junior Series Overall Individual Champion.
The overall SJS All-Star Team was also announced. These are the top 5 finishers in the series individual points race. The team is captained by Lincoln’s Naryn Kim (1150 pts). Joining her is Omaha’s Julia Karmazin (1075 pts), Lincoln’s Elly Honnens (1037.5 pts), Lincoln’s Olivia Lovegrove (1037.5 pts) and rounded out by Lincoln’s Eden Larson (775 pts).
