Lincoln – NE, Nebraska Junior Golf (NJG) is kicking off the season on Monday, June 1st in Norfolk, NE at Norfolk C.C. for the Golf TEC-Omaha Premier Tournament. The Nebraska Golf Association and the Nebraska Section PGA in partnership oversee the state’s largest golf competitive outlet, Nebraska Junior Golf (NJG). NJG serves over 1,200 youth golfers ages 7 up to the summer after high school graduation. “Our #1 goal is to provide a safe and responsible environment for these junior golfers while maintaining social distancing and mitigating all congregating, said Kurt Karcher, PGA Director of Nebraska Junior Golf.” NJG will be limiting event sizes and implementing policies to reduce player traffic to achieve this experience.
Individual sports such as golf and tennis (including doubles tennis) are not prohibited under any Directed Health Measure (DHM), however, participants must practice social distancing. The policies and procedures that will be implemented include many of the best practices currently being used at most of the Nebraska courses. “There is now a COVID-19 event operation resource center on our website, www.nebraskajuniorgolf.com that highlights many of our newly implemented operating procedures for the 2020 season. Some of these include self-screening prior to being on-site at tournaments, increased tee time intervals and rule modifications to help limit touch points, said Karcher.”
Registration for NJG Tour events goes live on Friday, May 22nd and TEAM Golf event registration opens up the following week on Friday, May 29th. Traditionally, TEAM Golf has been for junior golfers ages 7 to 13. This summer, TEAM Golf will now feature a newly created age division of 14+. TEAM Golf events will be structured very similar to a normal round of golf, they are simply scored as a 2-person team event. The TEAM Golf season kicks off on Thursday, June 11th at the “Short-Course” at Firethorn G.C. in Lincoln, NE.
