Lincoln, NE – Mahoney Golf Course played host to the first round of the two-day Capital City Championship, presented by Five Points Bank. The Capital City Championship is a regular stop on the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour, it is also an official Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranked Tournament nationally. All two-day events (18-Hole) on the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour are nationally ranked. Along with the Capital City Championship, the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour also offers the two-day events in the Kearney Junior Classic and the Central Nebraska Junior Amateur.
After day 1, in the boys 12-13 division, Elkhorn’s Trevor Gutschewski leads after shooting a 75 (+5). In the girls 14-15 division, Omaha’s Ashley Tackett leads the age group after finishing at 88 (+16). In the boys 14-15 division, Elkhorn’s Andrew Whittaker sits in first place after shooting a solid 73 (+3). Then, in the girls 16+ division, Papillion’s Sydney Taake leads after shooting an impressive 79 (+7). Lastly, in the boys 16+ division, Elkhorn’s Kaleb Fullerton finished with a score of 73 (+3) to lead going into the final day. Seven other players in the Boys 16+ division are within four or less strokes of the leader.
